The Tracks > Paparoa Track and Pike29 Memorial Track

The Paparoa Track and the Pike 29 Memorial Track will be New Zealand's 10th Great Walk.

The 65km track has been built for both Tramping and Mountain Bike use. It starts in Blackball and then winds through the Paparoa National Park to finish at Punakaiki. The Pike29 Track links with the Paparoa Track. It is a memorial to the 29 men who lost their lives in the 2010 Pike River Mine disaster. This track is a fantastic ride or walk (well suited to both) from the Moonlight Tops area to the Pororari fern glades you will experience some amazing landscapes.

The Paparoa Track will open on December 1st 2019

Most walkers will spend three days enjoying the breathtaking scenery and for most mountain bikers it is a two day ride - depending on what pace you elect to travel. Hut bookings are essential. Contact the Greymouth i-SITE on 0800 473 966 to arrange this.
