The Tracks > The Old Ghost Road

The Old Ghost Road is a forgotten gold miners' road that has been resurrected and turned into a mountain biking and tramping trail.

It connects the old dray road in the Lyell (Upper Buller Gorge) to the mighty Mokihinui River in the north. The Old Ghost Road is 85km long and covers majestic native forest, open tussock tops, river flats and forgotten valleys. Four ghost towns can be found along the route. Many people have described the Old Ghost Road as a 85km long outside museum.
